Volunteers are needed for the Hospital Car Service which operates in the St Minver Parish. This is a vital service to help people attend hospital and doctors appointments. If you would like to become a volunteer please see below.

The Service operates with direct contact between patients and drivers, which works well because last minute changes are easily arranged. The following information, which is included in all PARA minutes for easy access by users, may be helpful if you are thinking of volunteering:

Most trips are to Treliske, Port Isaac, Wadebridge, Bodmin, Newquay and Derriford. The commitment involves both travel time and reasonable waiting time, given for free, but clients are charged 45 pence per mile and cover parking and toll charges incurred. PARA covers only the cost of Insurance and mandatory DBS checks on the drivers. The NHS insures patients whilst on their premises and the driver’s personal insurance whilst in their car. PARA responsibility is only for the transfers between home or hospital and vehicle. Contact details for anyone wanting to use the Service are to be found in all church porches, doctors’ surgeries, parish notice boards and in the St Minver Link magazine. With the closure of doctor’s surgeries in Rock and St Kew, the demand on the Service is likely to rise and additional drivers are desirable to reduce the load. Anyone wishing to give some time to this worthy cause should contact Mr Peter Watson on 01208 862 452 or email peter@watsonhome.co.uk

Thank you.
