The online event, a partnership between Cornwall Council and the Council of the Isles of Scilly, is a COP26 Regional Roadshow event.

Cllr Martyn Alvey will be hosting the live online event.
With Cllr Linda Taylor Leader of Cornwall Council, Kate Kennally Chief Executive of Cornwall Council, Cllr Steve Watts Council of the Isles of Scilly Lead Member for Environment, Environmental Services and Climate Change, and Paul Masters Chief Executive of the Council of the Isles of Scilly all joining Cllr Alvey.

We will be sharing a message with our attendees from Alok Sharma, President of COP26.

Our aim is for our event to capture people’s attention and inspire and harness
a collective understanding in Cornwall and on the Isles of Scilly – of how we must all collaborate and take action to tackle the Climate Emergency, which is summed up in Robert Swan’s quote: “the biggest risk to our planet is believing that someone else will save it”

The online event will feature a series of six themed conversations, focussing
on the areas of Cornwall’s highest carbon emissions and how we can take action to mitigate the impact of Climate Change. Attendees will be able to choose one themed talk for each of the four sessions.

Themed talk sessions

Session one:

(a) How we move around (Transport) or
(b) How we buy and use things (Waste)

Session two, choose between:

(c) How we heat and power things (Energy) or
(d) How we adapt and improve things (Adaptation and mitigation)

Session three, choose between:

(e) A session for businesses – How we make things and provide services or
(f) How we grow things and what we eat (Agriculture)

The final two sessions will be for Cornwall or Isles of Scilly residents:

(g) Isles of Scilly – launch of the Isles of Scilly Climate Change Action Plan consultation
(h) Cornwall – hear about the next steps for furthering the Carbon Neutral Cornwall Action Plan and how you can get involved in co-designing Cornwall’s Climate Commitments.

Each of the talks will be an informal conversation, between two guest speakers, about the key climate change issues and barriers to tackling carbon emissions. Attendees will also be able to put their questions and comments to the guest speakers via the chat and let us know how they think we can all adopt low carbon ways of thinking and acting.

We anticipate businesses, town and parish councils and community climate action groups already working to reduce their carbon impact will be interested in attending, however our event is open to all, with everyone welcome.

Please let your local businesses and community groups, friends and family know about the event, and I hope you will be able to join us for the event or
at least some of the themed talks.
